Egypt's economy grows by 4.3% in Q2 FY15

Egypt's economy grew by 4.3% in Q2 FY15, compared to 1.4% in Q2 FY14, according to the Planning Minister Ashraf al-Arabi.

The minister said that GDP grew 5.6% in H1 FY15 compared to 1.2% in H1 FY14. The Minister said that unemployment was at 12.9% at the end of December 2014, down from 13.4% at the end of December 2013.

The sectors of tourism, industry , agriculture , building &construction and trade have contributed with 94.2% in Q2 FY15's economic growth ,added Al-Arabi.

Egypt plans to achieve economic growth of 6% within the upcoming five years by FY2018/2019 in addition to narrowing budget deficit to Gross Domestic product (GDB) to 8.5%.

The budget deficit stood at 12% at the fiscal year ended on 30 June 2014.

Worth mentioning, Egypt's budget deficit to GDP was 15.2%, the poverty rate was about 25%, the GDP growth was below 2% and foreign reserves were deteriorating all the time. This was the case before the support of Gulf countries and the serious economic reform plan that was set by the Egyptian government.
