New power stations to be built in Iraq
Iraq’s Electricity Ministry announced that it will buy electricity from foreign investors with the amount of $32-47 per one megawatt (MW).

The ministry signed an investment contract with Shamara Group last month to establish a 3000 MW Rumaila power station in Basra province, The Ministry Spokesman Mus'ab al-Mudaris stated that, highlighting that the station will be implemented on two stages.

Al-Mudaris added that Mass Group, in cooperation with a Turkish company, will also build a 3000 MW Basmaya power station.

As stipulated in the contracts, the duration of the contracts shall be for 17.5 months, liable to be extended for another year.

The Ministry added that it will open up Samawa power station for foreign investment. The station shall be of the capacity of 750 MW that will meet the needs of the province and supports the national electricity network.

Earlier this year, the ministry revealed that Iraq's total electrical capacity production exceeded 12,000 MW, with expectation to be increased in the last summer to 16,000 MW.
