The Iraqi Communications and Media Commission (CMC) has signed a 3G service contract with three main mobile operators operating in Iraq at a cost of $307 million each.

Under the contract, the three mobile network operators: Zain Iraq, Asiacell and Korek, can utilize the 3G spectrum in return for $307 million each, with the sum to be paid in four installments, CMS Chairman Safaeddin Al-Rabea told KUNA.

The move is expected to create a quantum jump in communication services in Iraq, thus positively reflecting on the economic situation in general, he added.

The signing ceremony was attended by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, Foreign Minister Baqir Jabr Al-Zubeidi and representatives from the three mobile communication providers.
