Tadawul shuts in red; shrugs off Mobily, NCB
Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) ended Wednesday’s session on a down note, untouched by newly debuted NCB that jumped by its maximum limit.
Traded value and volume also retreated, after the placing of offer orders was almost halted on NCB and Kingdom Holding nearly after one hour of trading.
The index fell 0.02% or 2.04 points to close at 9766.01 points, compared with 9768.05 yesterday. Thus, the index continued the downtrend for the second successive session, after a three-day winning run during which it gained 1.71% or 164.36 points.
Seven sectors moved lower, which included banks & financial services that sagged 0.24% untouched by the rise of NCB.
Meanwhile, real estate development was the biggest loser (-1.14%), followed by energy & utilities (-0.83%), and agriculture & food industries (-0.68%).
Eight other sectors moved higher, led by multi-investment (+3.83%), followed by transportation (+1.34%).
Telecommunications & IT gained 0.77%, powered by Mobily (+1.61%) and STC (+0.25%). Meanwhile, Zain and Atheeb shut in red.
The daily performance of traded stocks was positive, as 87 stocks headed north (53.7% of traded stocks) compared with 29 stocks yesterday, while 54 stocks headed south (33.3% of traded stocks) compared with 126 stocks yesterday. 21 stocks remained unchanged (12.97%).
NCB was the top gainer (+10%), followed by Kingdom Holding (+9.89%), then Thimar (+9.78%) and Malath Insurance (+5.52%). On the negative front, Najran Cement was the biggest drag (-3.55%), followed by PUBA Arabia (-2.98%) and Alhokair (-2.55%).
Wednesday’s turnover fell by 16.45% to SAR 7.1 billion from SAR 8.5 billion yesterday. It is 7.97% and 8.18% lower than the average weekly and monthly turnover of SAR 7.7 billion and SAR 7.73 billion respectively.
Traded volume also declined by 18.86% to 214.9 million shares from 264.78 million shares. It is 2.67% and 7.98% lower than the average weekly and monthly volume of 220.73 million shares and 233.5 million shares.
NCB, which debuted on Tadawul, and KHC saw a halt in offered shares for most of the session, after the two stocks soared to their highest levels.
Alinma Bank was the most active with 56.5 million shares and SAR 1.4 billion turnover. It was followed by Dar Al Arkan (22 million shares) then Mobily (16.96 million shares). Mobily came second with turnover reaching SAR 958.5 million.
