Bahrain, UAE top GCC in ICT Development index


ICDL Arabia, an organization that promotes digital skills and cyber safety in GCC countries, Iraq and Egypt, has announced the recent results of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Report 2014.


According to ITU’s report, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman ranked as the best five Arab countries and among 60 best international countries in ITU’s information and communication technology (ICT) Development Index (IDI).


Worth noting, the index is a composite measurement that ranks 166 countries according to their level of ICT access, use and skills.


On the level of Arab countries, Bahrain ranked first with 7.40 points, followed by UAE with 7.03 points, Qatar at 7.01 points, Saudi Arabia with 6.36 points and Oman with 6.10 points.


The IDI top 30-ranking included Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Japan, Macao (China), New Zealand, Singapore and the United States.


Denmark ranked number one in IDI, followed by the Republic of Korea. While UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman ranked 32, 34, 47 and 52 respectively.
