Minister of Transport Lina Shabib and her Iraqi counterpart Hadi Al Ameri reiterated on Saturday that Jordan and Iraq look forward to boosting economic and trade integration, stressing that the liquidation of the Jordanian-Iraqi Land Transport Company would not mark an end to joint Arab action, according to Petra news agency.

The two ministers made their remarks on the sidelines of the meetings of General Assembly of the company, where they noted the wide scope of cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

Today's meeting, they affirmed, aims to speed the liquidation of the company, which started in 2008, and to reduce obstacles facing the liquidation committee.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi minister announced that the Iraqi cabinet has recently approved building an oil pipeline from Baghdad to Aqaba, stressing that his country was enthusiastic about increasing joint cooperation with Jordan.

The two ministers also discussed a proposed rail network between Jordan and Iraq and affirmed the two governments' keenness to press ahead with the project, blaming funding problems for delaying the execution of the project.

The Jordanian minister, meanwhile, said a Chinese company expressed interest in the project and that Jordan is promoting the project, thanks to its key role in linking countries to the east and west of the Arab world.

She added that liquidation of the land transport company would not end land linkage between the two countries, stressing that more than 80,000 trucks cross the border every year.
