Dubai – Mubasher: UAE’s Al Ghurair Resources, the biggest grain trading and handling group in MENA, plans to boost grain production capacity by 20% this year as it intends to expand in Egypt and Iran, according to Chairman Essa Al Ghurair.

The top official told Mubasher, during Gulfood 2016 exhibition in Dubai, that the group is seeking to increase its gain production to 6 million tonnes this year, from 5 million tonnes in 2015.

Al Ghurair Resources began some deals in the Iranian market in early 2016 and plans to continue its operations there especially after international sanctions were lifted on such a major market.

The chairman also stressed that the group will focus this year on improving the performance of its production lines in its UAE plants.

Asked about expansion plans, the chairman said the group plans to establish a foodstuff complex in Oman’s Sahar province, along with a mill with a capacity of 600 tonnes per day, with a total investment cost between AED 200-300 million.
