Dubai – Mubasher: du seeks to get the final official approvals to start launching services under the Virgin Mobile brand in the UAE, chief executive Osman Sultan said.

du will start operating Virgin Mobile-branded services in the near future, he added.

The new brand is not a license or operator or virtual network, but Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Co (EITC), the holding company of operator du, acquired the rights to use the brand under an agreement signed with Virgin Group.

Regarding the launch of TV-at-home services, Sultan said that a feasibility study is being conducted on the mechanism of leasing the infrastructure related to sharing networks between du and Etisalat, with expectations to be finished the study before the end of this year.

These services will be launched as part of the network sharing agreement signed between both operators.

Sharing the fixed-line network infrastructure still needs some time to be completed, he said, adding that du and Etisalat are pumping investments to extend optical fiber networks to new urban areas.
