Saving balances in Egypt grow 19% to EGP2.7tr

Cairo - Mubasher: The Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that total individuals’ saving deposits grew 19.1%.

Saving deposits reached EGP 2.664 trillion in fiscal year 2015-2016 compared to EGP 2.237 trillion in FY14/15.

Saving balances in banking saving containers in both public and private sectors, reached EGP 2.116 trillion in FY15/16 compared to EGP 1.734 trillion in FY14/15, increasing by of 22%, and 49.4% for total saving value, it contributed by 79.4% of the total individual saving at main saving containers, according to the report.

As for the saving balances in postal saving fund, it grew by 11% year-on-year to, as it registered EGP 188.3 billion in FY15/16 compared to EGP 169.6 billion in the year before, representing 7.1% of total saving value.

Saving balances in insurance Companies amounted to EGP 24.1 billion, increasing by 12.8% from the year before, and accounting for 0.9% of total saving value, the record noted.

Meanwhile, savings in the national social insurance authority went up by 7.5%, to EGP 335.7 billion compared to EGP 312.2 billion in the previous year, representing 12.6% of the total saving value, according to CAPMAS.
