Careem plans expansion in 6 Egyptian cities
Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, and Minya are among the new destinations for Careem

Cairo - Mubasher: The head of Careem operations in Egypt, Ramy Kato, said that his company is planning to expand in six governorates by the end of 2017.

This will raise the total number of governorates in which the private transportation network company is operating to 16, he noted.

Careem aims at expanding to Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, Minya, and Asyut, Kato added.

The company is currently operating in Cairo, Alexandria, Mansoura, Tanta, Damanhour, Hurghada, Zagazig, Banha, El Mahalla, and Kafr El Dawwar.

In April, the Egyptian cabinet approved a law regulating passenger transport services by private cars.

The government will allow companies operating in this field, such as Uber and Careem, a six-month period for reconciliation, Hossam Abd El-Rehem, the minister of justice said at the time.

According to the minister, the new law consists of 23 articles, and it aims at providing a legislation that organized and regulates passenger transportation through private cars using information technology.

Ghada Wali, the minister of social solidarity, previously revealed that the new law will compel companies such as Uber and Careem and others to pay taxes, and social insurance.
