Doha – Mubasher: Umm Al Houl power plant, a subsidiary of Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC), currently provides around 15% of Doha’s water needs, the plant’s CEO Jamal Al-Khalaf said Thursday.

We have sped up the pace of launching water tanks at the plant to ensure water reserves in Qatar, Al-Khalaf added in a statement.

The first stage of electricity production from Umm Al Houl is set to begin in July, the top official revealed, noting that experimental operation has already begun.

Umm Al Houl's production capacity is about 136 million gallons of water daily and 2,520 megawatts of electricity worth QAR 11 billion.

QEWC owns a 60% stake in Umm Al Houl power plant, while Qatar Petroleum (QP) and Qatar Foundation each own a 5% stake, while the remaining 30% of the plant is owned by the Mitsubishi Corporation.
