Arab, GCC foreign ministers to discuss Qatar rift in Cairo
The meeting comes in accordance with the deadline given to Qatar to accept 13 sweeping demands of the Arab and GCC states

Cairo – Mubasher: The foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE will discuss the latest updates about the diplomatic rift with Qatar in Cairo, according to the BBC.

The meeting comes in accordance with the deadline given to Qatar to accept 13 sweeping demands of the Arab and GCC states, which had cut ties with the country a month ago on allegations that the country is supporting terrorism. If Qatar were to reject the list of demands, it would face further sanctions, the BBC reported.

The demands include shutting down Al Jazeera Channel and limiting the country’s relations with Iran.

Qatar had initially been granted a grace period of ten days to respond to the demands, which expired on Monday, 3 July. On the same day, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah convinced the countries to extend the grace period for 48 hours.

Labelling the demands as “unrealistic”, Qatari foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Thani said on Tuesday: "It's not about terrorism, it's talking about shutting down the freedom of speech."

Al-Thani had stated on Sunday, 2 July, that the demands are bound to be rejected, adding that negotiations are possible, but need to comply to certain conditions.
