Crystal Lagoons unveils new business model at Cityscape
The company is set to announce its first lagoon in Saudi Arabia in the foreseeable future

Dubai - Mubasher: Crystal Lagoons, the multinational water innovation company and developer, has launched a series of lagoons open to the public as a demonstration of its expansion plans in the Middle East and worldwide.

The lagoons do not require high maintenance costs and are eco-friendly “using up to 100 times less chemicals than a traditional filtration system and 98% less energy required by conventional water treatment systems,” the company said in a statement.

The lagoons can use various types of water sources including “brackish from underground”, which will guarantee the prudent usage of fresh water, the company said, adding that the lagoons are considered a good economic option because of their affordable construction costs.

“The business model for Public Access Lagoons is very simple, we generate a partnership with a developer and earn a percentage of the ticket income. Crystal Lagoons has already signed two projects in the US and one in Turkey,” revealed Carlos Salas, Crystal Lagoons’ regional director for the Middle East.

“Although discussions are at an early stage in this region, we believe there are endless opportunities in the Middle East with a range of theme parks, water parks, safari parks, aquariums and zoos,’’ he added.

Crystal Lagoons enjoys a $25 billion project portfolio in the Middle East, including the first mountain top lagoon in Il Monte Galala in Sokhna, Egypt, and the first lagoon in Al-Rama region in Jordon.

The company is set to announce its first lagoon in Saudi Arabia in the foreseeable future.

“In Dubai, Crystal Lagoons is working on the second phase of the lagoon at Meydan Sobha LLC FZ, the joint venture between Meydan Group and Sobha Group, to develop Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City – District One. The lagoon will measure more than 36 hectares in size,” according to the company statement.
