Dubai - Mubasher: Supply growth remains problematic to hoteliers. Nevertheless, demand has maintained its position, according to STR data.

Despite the said strong demand from tourists, which was up 4.8% year-to-date, hotels in the UAE underwent a decline both in room rates and revenues, STA analysts said.
Pressured by the increased supply, occupancy levels and pricing power dropped in August, as occupancy decreased 5.9% to 68.4%, and average daily rates (ADR) fell 8.3% to AED 422.77, the STR report revealed.

ADR grew by 7.4% to $151.04, while revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased by 3.2% to $93.84, and occupancy declined 3.9% to 62.1%.
RevPAR dropped 13.7% to AED 289.27 in August and declined both in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the analysts added, noting that Middle Eastern hotels’ performance varied in August.
