ENOC to use solar energy in service stations
More than 23 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of solar energy will be generated by 2020

Dubai – Mubsaher: Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) on Monday announced that all future service stations will be powered by solar energy, in line with the UAE’s long-term strategy to diversify energy sources, and the Dubai 2021 Plan to become a smart and sustainable city.

Earlier, ENOC had piloted the first solar-powered service station in the country at Dubai Internet City (DIC), which featured photovoltaic (PV) solar panels with a peak capacity of 120 kilowatts, generating approximately 30% more than the average energy required to run the station, according to a company statement.

The excess energy generated is transmitted back to the main grid of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) through a solar meter that measures and monitors the power injected to the power grid, the company added.

More than 23 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of solar energy will be generated by 2020, the company estimated.

“With the success of our DIC service station, we will now install solar panels in all new stations to produce the alternative energy required to run these facilities,” CEO Saif Humaid Al Falasi announced during the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2017.
