Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: An Abu Dhabi car plate with the number ‘2’ was sold at an auction in Abu Dhabi at a record value of AED 10 million ($2.7 million).

The plate was purchased by Emirati businessman Ahmed Al Marzuoqi, after a neck-and-neck bid between 20 contenders at a ‘Distinguished number plate’ auction in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Car plate number ‘11’ registered the second highest bid in the auction after it sold for AED 6.4 million, while plate number ‘10’ was sold at AED 5.4 million.

The auction was organised by Abu Dhabi Police in collaboration with Emirates Auction and marked the 60th anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Police.

Other distinguished number plates were also sold during the auction, with plates bearing the numbers ‘22’, ‘17’, and ‘60’ selling for AED 4.5 million, AED 3.3 million, and AED 2.95 million, respectively.

A total of 60 number plates were sold at the auction, bringing in a combined value of AED 55 million ($15 million).
