Mubasher: Nissan has announced on Tuesday that it is planning to test self-driving taxis in March near its headquarters in Yokohama, as reported by CNN Money.

The automobile manufacturer will use its electric model Leaf for the taxi tests.

Nissan LEAF is 100% electric, produces zero emissions while driving, and it will be equipped with software, cameras and sensors that will allow navigation in pre-set routes.

However, a backup driver will be in the passenger seat to monitor the tests.

Nissan has asked people to volunteer as riders for the trial.

The company’s chairman, Carlos Ghosn previously revealed his ambitions to introduce robo-taxi services by 2022.
