Mubasher: The President of the United States Donald Trump has recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel late Wednesday.

Trump also announced plans to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

“I have determined that it is time to officially recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,” Trump said in a speech delivered from the White House.

“After more than two decades of waivers, we are no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians,” he added.

Arab and many world leaders expressed their concern regarding the move in phone calls with Trump yesterday, as reported by CNN.

The news network noted that Trump will sign a waiver to keep the US embassy in Tel Aviv for the time being as senior administration officials estimate it will take years before a new embassy can open in Jerusalem.
