Mubasher: Barwa Real Estate Company on Monday announced signing a contract to build a new labour city at QAR 1.295 billion ($352.6 million) in collaboration with INSHA Co.-W.L.L.

The 12-month contract entails the construction of a labour city on an area of 994,567 square metres on Salwa Road, Doha.

“The project comes as part of the Qatari government’s efforts to improve the housing standards of workers and meet the needs of the local market in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar's preparations for hosting the 2022 World Cup,” Barwa revealed in a filing to the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE).

It added that the Salwa Road labour city will entail the construction of 3,170 residential houses, as well as retail shops, and mosques.

Barwa will also be responsible for “infrastructure works consisting of 25 power substations, internal roads, and potable water, fire, irrigation and sewage networks as well as surveillance cameras.”

Each residential house will consist of eight rooms and eight bathrooms, the statement showed.

A 183,538 square metre-lot has been allocated for bus parking in order to reduce traffic congestion within residential areas, the construction company concluded.
