Etihad, Emirates, Royal Jordanian among world’s safest airlines in 2017

Mubasher: Carriers from Asia and the UK topped the list of the world’s 20 safest airlines in 2017, AirlineRating.com reported on Thursday.

The list included two Arab airlines, namely UAE based Emirates and Etihad Airways, as well as the Royal Jordanian Airlines.

Only two out of the 20 were American, namely Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

The list also included Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Scandinavian Airline System, EVA Air, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Swissair, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia, according to the report.

“All airlines have incidents every day and many are aircraft manufacture issues, not airline operational problems,” commented Geoffrey Thomas, the site’s editor-in-chief.

The way the flight crew handles any incidents determines good airlines from unsafe ones, Thomas added.

Throughout 2017, there were about 13 crashes of smaller aircraft.
