Asian stocks end Monday mixed as US dollar weakens

Mubasher: Asian shares saw a mixed performance on Monday, which came in line with weak US dollar and higher oil prices.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index ended trading 0.23% lower at 31,338.87 after rising for fourteen consecutive sessions.

In China, the Shanghai Composite index fell by 0.54% to 3,410.49 points as banks sector gains failed to offset its overall losses.

On the other hand, Japan's main index Nikkei 225 rose 0.26% to 23,714.88 points despite the yen’s decline.

Other Asian indices ended the session in the green, with Taiwan’s benchmark adding 0.7% and reaching its highest level in 28 years, while the Indian S&P BSE SENSEX increased 0.45% to 3,536.41 points.

These moves coincide with the US markets being closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. day.
