Asian stocks extend gains, Hang Seng hits record high

Mubasher: Asian shares ended Tuesday trading higher amid investors’ optimism about the corporate earnings season after the US tax reform.

The Japanese main index Nikkei jumped by around 1% to 23951.8 points, marking its highest level since November 1991 and buoyed by a weaker yen.

Similarly, China’s Shanghai Composite grew 0.77% to 3,436.59 ahead of gross domestic product (GDP) and retail sales data due on Thursday.

In the meantime, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index surged 1.8% to 31,904.75, setting a fresh record high.

These significant increases came as the euro remains strong and investors look ahead the fourth quarter’s earnings season in the US.

On the currency level, the USD/JPY pair last rose 0.16% to 110.72, while the EUR/USD declined 0.30% to $1.2227.
