Mubasher: The University of Michigan's preliminary consumer sentiment index dropped to its lowest level in six months in January.
Preliminary data showed a decline of 1.6% to 94.4 points in January, compared with 95.9 in the previous month.
Economists expected final data, due at 2 February, to show a rise to 97 points.
Current economic condition index also went down to 109.2 in January from 113.8 in December.
By 03:22 pm GMT, the EUR/USD pair inched up 0.04% to $1.2243.
