Renault looks to keep CEO for new term

Mubasher: Car giant Renault has proposed to keep its chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn for another term in the company.

Ghosn, who has held the position since 2005, will be required to carry out three main directives during his new four-year term.

These mandates involve overseeing Renault's strategic objectives of the "Drive the Future" plan, which ends in 2022, taking decisive steps in making the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi tie-up "irreversible", and strengthening the succession for the head of Groupe Renault.

Renault's board "has renewed its confidence in Mr. Carlos Ghosn as chairman and chief executive officer of Renault, and chairman and chief executive officer of the Alliance," the Boulogne-Billancourt-based company said in a statement.

Shareholders will vote on the board's recommendation to keep Ghosn as CEO in their June meeting.

Renault added that it had appointed Thierry Bollore as chief operating officer as of 19 February.

The Renault-Nissan alliance was formed in 1999, while Nissan acquired a majority stake in Mitsubishi in 2016.

In September 2017, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance adopted its current name. The French-Japanese auto group claimed it was the world's biggest automotive group after selling 10.61 million cars in 2017.
