Philippine leader affirms total ban on OFWs in Kuwait

Philippine leader affirms total ban on OFWs in Kuwait
There are more than 250,000 Filipinos in Kuwait

Mubasher: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday has affirmed the continuation of a total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers (OFWs) to Kuwait.

There are more than 250,000 Filipinos in the GCC member, and most of them are working as domestic helpers, according to Reuters.

The President added that the decision of putting a stop to send OFWs to Kuwait may extend to involve other countries.

The move came on the back of losing four Filipino women in the wealthy Gulf state, as they have been abused by employers that had driven several to suicide, Duterte noted.

Moreover, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affair announced that Duterte will visit the nation in the first or the second week of March to inspect Filipino workers' conditions.

Philippine President has arranged free flights for Filipino residents who wish to leave Kuwait after the body of Joanna Daniela Demafelis was discovered in an abandoned apartment in the Kuwaiti capital on 6 February.
