UK automakers fear Brexit plans to make plants

Mubasher: UK giant car manufacturers expressed concerns over prime minister Theresa May’s Brexit plans which may have a negative impact on their global trade deals.

Factories would incur higher costs and struggle to operate normally after the UK’s exit, auto makers warned.

May’s proposals sparked companies’ fears over the process of importing car parts from around the globe and exporting cars manufactured in the UK to other European countries.

“It costs us two-digit million number of pounds which is absolutely wasted if the one or the other condition is going to happen but at the end of the day we cannot risk the company,” Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralph Speth told Reuters on Wednesday.

Car makers are currently trying to increase their inventories and set plans to handle high tariffs and potential delays, Reuters reported.
