Elon Musk expects short Mars trips via SpaceX by mid-2019

Mubasher: SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk announced that his company was currently building a spaceship that would likely be able to go for short space trips to Mars by the first half of 2019.

Speaking at South by Southwest festival, held in Austin, Texas, on Sunday, Musk said that travelling to Mars could be applicable on the short term, noting that all that is needed is general support, encouragement, goodwill, and a massive amount of entrepreneurial resources.

However, the SpaceX and Tesla founder told the festival’s attendees that his timeline could be a little bit optimistic.

“I think once we build it we'll have a point of proof something that other companies and countries can go and do. They certainly don't think it's possible, but if we do they'll up their game," Musk stated.

Last year, SpaceX had revealed plans to send a cargo mission to Mars by 2022, but last month, the company launched the Falcon Heavy space shuttle with a payload that included Musk’s cherry-red Tesla convertible.
