Trump’s new economic advisor favours firm dollar

Mubasher: US President Donald Trump’s new top economic advisor Larry Kudlow said that the US economy would be supported by a strong dollar.

"A great country needs a strong currency, I have no reason to believe [Trump] does not favour a sound and strong and steady dollar," Kudlow told CNBC a day after his appointment as the chairman the National Economic Council was announced.

Gary Cohn’s successor had previously backed Trump’s tariffs decision and called for a firmer dollar.

"I'm not saying the dollar has to go up 30 percent, I'm just saying let the rest of the world know that we are going to keep the world's international reserve currency steady," Kudlow added.

"I kinda love where it is right now," he noted, citing the dollar index, which last rose 0.35% to 90.018.
