Riyadh – Mubasher: The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) on Sunday confirmed news reports that one of its oil tankers had been targeted in international waters.

The tanker named Abqaiq was targeted on 3 April in the south west of the port of Al Hudaydah in Yemen, Bahri revealed.

“The VLCC suffered only minor damage and there were no injuries to our crew aboard. The cargo was unaffected and there was no loss of containment,” the Saudi national shipping carrier stated in a filing to the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul).

It added that the crude oil vessel had successfully resumed its northward journey across the Red Sea.

Bahri noted that owing to its emergency systems and Saudi-led backing, everything was progressing smoothly now.

We are “grateful to the Saudi-led coalition whose warship intervened and ensured that the carrier’s continued journey towards its destination,” the company highlighted, noting that the rest of the carrier’s journey was “safe and uninterrupted.”

The Saudi-listed crude carried further concluded that it was cooperating and coordinating with all relevant authorities and officials in the matter.

Bahri last posted a sharp decline of 53.4% in profits to SAR 800.3 million ($213.413 million) in 2017 from SAR 1.72 billion ($458.667 million) in the year before.
