India, Sweden to sign defence deal next week

Mubasher: India and Sweden are expected to sign a security deal when officials from the two countries meet next week in Stockholm, informed sources told The Economic Times (ET) on Monday.

The deal will likely facilitate the "transfer of technology if Swedish defence major Saab is chosen to build fighter jets here," the newspaper added.

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi is visiting Sweden on a two-day trip that commenced earlier on Monday. The visit is the first by an Indian premier to the European country in almost three decade.

In addition to the security deal, Modi and his Swedish counterpart will issue an action plan and "Document on Partnership for Innovation" following the Stockholm Summit, the sources revealed.

Sweden is looking to support its relations and partnership with India to a "strategic level," they added.
