Mubasher: North and South Korea are negotiating a permanent end to the military conflict between them, as the two neighbors are still technically at war.

The announcement of war end may take place during their summit, which will be held next week between North Korean premier Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, according to daily newspaper Munhwa Ilbo, citing an unnamed South Korean official.

Pyongyang and Seoul have started their war since the 1950-1953 Korean conflict ended with a truce and not with a peace treaty.

A direct phone line between the two leaders may be connected by next Friday, South Korea President's chief of staff Im Jong-seok said, stressing that the date of their first conversation hadn't been set yet.

“Ending the state of conflict is the core of the whole thing. Peace is as complicated as denuclearisation..There also has to be a process of actually delivering the peace,” John Delury, an associate professor of Chinese studies at Yonsei University in Seoul said.
