Opel may cut 800 jobs in Germany – DPA

Mubasher: German carmaker Opel is reportedly planning to cut up to 800 jobs in its plant in Eisenach, Germany, the country’s news agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) reported, citing union sources as saying.

Opel, a subsidiary of Peugeot, will reduce the workforce at its Eisenach plant to 1,000 employees from their current 1,800, sources at Germany’s IG Metall union told DPA.

“IG Metall and Opel's works council claim the management and new parent company Peugeot have violated tariff agreements and have called for employees meetings on Thursday afternoon at all three German sites in Ruesselsheim, Kaiserslautern and Eisenach,” MarketWatch reported, citing DPA as saying.
