Amazon Prime has over 100m members – Bezos

Mubasher: Having "high standards" is the key to running a business, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos stated before revealing that his company’s Amazon Prime service had exceeded 100 million subscribers.

This is the first time the global e-retailer owner has unveiled statistics, to the public, about his company, according to CNN.

Analysts had estimated the number at around 90 million in 2017.

Amazon Prime, a service launched 13 years ago, is the firm’s monthly or annual membership programme for the US and 15 other countries, and includes “perks” including free and discounted shipping, music and video streaming, and free e-books.

According to Bezos’ letter to the company’s shareholders, annual fees are one of many ways the service makes money, noting that Amazon shipped over 5 billion items via Amazon Prime in 2017, which added more members last year than any other year before.

The Amazon founder and CEO also noted that 2017 was the best year for Amazon Hardware sales like Echo and Fire devices.
