Eurozone current account surplus falls in February​​​​​​​

Mubasher: The Eurozone’s current account surplus recorded a decline in February from the prior month.

The current account surplus of the euro area went down to EUR 35.1 billion ($43.43 billion) in February from EUR 39 billion ($48.26 billion) in January, data released on Thursday by European Central Bank (ECB) showed.

Meanwhile, analysts had forecast the current account surplus would fall to EUR 32.3 billion.

As for the 12-month period ended February, the Eurozone’s current account made up 3.7% of gross domestic product (GDP) versus 3.4% of GDP during the same period of the previous year, the data showed.

Meanwhile, goods, services, and primary income showed surpluses in the second month of 2018, whereas secondary income continued to register a deficit, reaching EUR 8 billion during the period.

By 12:07 GMT, the EUR/USD pair edged up 0.04% to $1.2379.
