Mubasher: The chairman and CEO of Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi, Carlos Ghosn said that a merger within the group is one option to prepare the company for future challenges.

Ghosn remarks were during the Wall Street Journal's conference in Hong Kong.

The CEO is skeptic that automakers will soon be able to operate independently in the Chinese market.

The regulations forcing foreign companies to establish a joint venture (JV) with a Chinese partner to produce and sell cars are set to be eased by 2022.

“Most of the carmakers will remain with their partner, that's what I predict,” he indicated.

“This will put more pressure on partnerships to be productive,” he added noting that “they can just split.”
