Dubai – Mubasher: Dubai's DP World has closed an agreement with Port of Prince Rupert to expand its facilities at the DP World Prince Rupert Fairview Container Terminal.

The UAE-based logistics giant will launch Phase 2B expansion, which is aimed at increasing the Canadian port’s container terminal capacity to 1.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), according to an official statement.

“Canada is an important part of our global network and we are delighted to confirm these plans, which underline our commitment to Prince Rupert,” DP World Group’s chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem commented.

Slated for completion in 2022, the project will expand the container yard to 41 hectares from 32 and will add two new rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes and an eighth dock gantry crane.

“The agreement signifies DP World’s commitment to enabling Canadian trade with another significant investment that will add 1 million TEU of container capacity to the Port of Prince Rupert in less than five years,” Port of Prince Rupert board chair Bud Smith said

The new expansion’s cost was not released.
