EBRD to grant Egypt EUR 200m loan for Cairo Metro development

EBRD to grant Egypt EUR 200m loan for Cairo Metro development
The loan facility will be paid officially within the next two months

Cairo – Mubasher: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will grant Egypt an EUR 200 million facility to develop the Cairo Metro line 1 as of 18 July.

The loan will be paid officially within the next two months, assistant transport minister Amr Shaat told Amwal Al Ghad News.

The bank has called on the Egyptian transport ministry to complete some documents related to the development scheme in the meantime, Shaat noted.

In May, the transport ministry recently raised Cairo Metro ticket prices to range between EGP 3 and EGP 7 in accordance with the number of stations. Before that, Cairo metro tickets were fixed at EGP 2 regardless of the number of the stops.
