Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) on Sunday announced receiving the first shipment of bauxite ore from Guinea. The ore, through which aluminum is obtained, will be used in the construction of the company’s Al Taweelah alumina refinery.

The 61,450-tonne shipment came from Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée, EGA, largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, said in a statement.

“Alumina refining will be a new industrial activity for the UAE, so this shipment of bauxite is the first ever to our country. Thousands of people are currently working hard to bring the construction of Al Taweelah alumina refinery to completion, and we look forward to producing our first alumina during the first half of next year,” revealed EGA managing director and CEO Abdulla Kalban.

The Emirati aluminum firm further highlighted that once its Al Taweelah alumina refinery reached full production, Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée would supply it with around 5 million tonnes of bauxite each year.

Over 13,000 people are currently taking part in the construction of Al Taweelah alumina refinery, which is one of the biggest industrial construction sites in the UAE.
