Qatar seeks to raise $4 billion from banks to buy Eurofighter Typhoon combat jets

Mubasher: Qatar is seeking to raise $4 billion from banks in order to finance the purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon combat jets.

The Qatari government is working with financial consultants on the deal that will be backed by export credit agencies, sources told Bloomberg, adding that the deal would likely be finalised within a month.

The world's top exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) is holding negotiations with banks and credit export agencies from Italy, France, and the UK.

Buying Typhoon combat jets will advance Qatar’s strategic efforts towards stability, a top Qatari official told the news agency.

Since 5 June 2017, Qatar has been facing outflows of foreign customers' deposits after four Arab countries, led by Saudi Arabia, cut their diplomatic ties with the gas-rich state, accusing Qatar of financing terrorism.

It is worth noting that Qatar ordered 24 Typhoon combat jets in December at a total value of $6.6 billion.
