Riyadh – Mubasher: China has revealed plans to expand mutual cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the trillion-dollar Belt and Road initiative.

China also seeks to support the Saudi Vision 2030, councilor and foreign minister Wang Yi said.

“China and Saudi Arabia should make full use of the high-level joint committee between the two countries and promote concrete cooperation in various fields,” Xinhua reported, citing Yi as saying.

Connecting the two projects, the Belt and the Saudi Vision, will boost collaboration between the two nations in various sectors, including tourism, investments, mining, and energy, Saudi foreign minister Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir said.

Earlier in 2018, talks between China and Saudi Arabia of adding the latter as one of main partners to the Belt and Road initiative began.

The $5 trillion Belt and Road megaproject is still under construction, but is set to include pipelines and utility grids, shipping harbours, roads, and railways, linking central China to countries as far as Colombia and London.

GCC neighbour Kuwait has also expressed interest in taking part in the Belt and Road initiative.

On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping revealed plans to invest around $20 billion in Arab nations in the coming period.
