US natural gas supplies rise; prices fall

Mubasher: The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that the country’s natural gas storage rose by 46 billion cubic feet (Bcf) the week ended 13 July, reaching a total of 2,249 Bcf.

This came below S&P Global Platts’ expectations of a rise of 59 Bcf.

The average over the last five years for the same week was a rise of 62 billion. Stockpiles were 710 Bcf lower than last year’s figure, whereas they were 535 Bcf below the five-year average of 2, 784 Bcf, the EIA data estimated.

Nymex natural gas futures went down 0.18% by By 2:18 pm, following the release of the EIA’s weekly report to $2.72 per million British Thermal Units (MMBtu).

By 2:27 pm, gas futures shed 0.04% to $2.72 per MMBtu.
