13 dead, 7 injured as Missouri storm sinks ‘duck boats’

Mubasher: At least 13 people, including children were killed and seven others were injured in Missouri, after a boat carrying tourists capsized during a thunderstorm, while four another people remained missing.

On Thursday, an amphibious vehicle of the national duck tours operator, “Ride the Ducks,” sank on Table Rock Lake outside the town of Branson.

14 people survived, of which seven were injured, Missouri State Highway Patrol Sargent Jason Pace said.

Divers found two more bodies on early Friday, raising the death toll from 11 to 13, while they would continue to search the lake, Stone County’s sheriff Doug Rader told reporters at a briefing late Thursday.

Seven people, four adults, including two with critical injuries, and three children were injured, and they are being treated at the Cox Medical Center in Branson, the hospital said via Twitter.

Two ducks, one of which could survive, were heading toward land through a heavy wind, Rader said.

63 miles (101 kilometres) per hour winds (mph) were recorded at the airport of Branson, near the time of the incident, National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Linderberg told the Springfield News-Leader newspaper, adding that a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Branson area, telling inhabitants to take shelter.
