Jordan, Egypt to amend gas import deal

Jordan, Egypt to amend gas import deal
These amendments will be carried out early 2019

Mubasher: Jordan and Egypt are looking to amend natural gas sale and purchase agreements, allowing Amman to import enough gas from Cairo that would cover 10% of the kingdom's electricity generation demand.

These amendments will be carried out early 2019, the Jordanian energy minister Hala Zawati said in a statement on Wednesday. These changes came following the recent gas discoveries in Egypt’s Zohr field, he added, noting that production at these discoveries has already begun last December.

Jordan needs nearly 330 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to generate electricity.

In March, Egyptian petroleum minister Tarek El-Mollas said that the Egyptian natural gas would be re-pumped to Jordan as of early 2019 after a four-year of suspension.
