Ooredoo ranks 1st in Qatar for network speed in 6M - Report

Mubasher: Ooredoo has been ranked the first in Qatar for mobile network speed during the first half of 2018, according to Speedtest Global Index report by Ookla, which compares internet speed data from around the world on a monthly basis.

Moreover, data for the Index comes from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by real people using Speed test every month.

In Qatar, data were collected from 68,000 tests conducted during the six-month period ended 30 June, the report showed.

The ranking reflects the Qatari group’s abilities to be a leading telecommunication company in Qatar, in addition to supporting Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030, Waleed Al Sayed, CEO of Ooredoo, commented.  

It is worth noting that Ooredoo was the first telecom company providing fifth-generation (5G) services in Qatar through using Ooredoo 5G spectrum at 3.5 GHz.

According to the group, the 5G commercial service experience will improve spreading Smart Cities and Smart Stadiums in the world's richest country per capita.

The Qatar Stock Exchange- (QSE) and the Abu Dhabi Securities- (ADX) listed Ooredoo posted a 60.4% year-on-year profit drop for the second quarter of 2018, recording QAR 202.87 million ($56.73 million), compared to QAR 512.67 million ($143.36 million).

For the first half of 2018, the Qatari telecommunication firm's net profits declined 37.2% to QAR 688.92 million, from QAR 1.96 billion in H1-17.

By the end of Sunday’s session, Ooredoo’s stock declined 0.71% at QAR 71.06.
