Mubasher: Remittances from Philippine workers in Kuwait dropped 20.4% during the first seven months of 2018, according to recent statistics released by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

As for Philippine workers in the Middle East, their remittances decreased by 15% during the period between January and July, the Philippine central bank's data showed.

Earlier this year, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has affirmed the continuation of a total ban on the deployment of Philippine workers (OFWs) to Kuwait.

The decision of stopping sending OFWs to Kuwait may extend to involve other countries in the GCC and others.

It is worth noting that there are more than 250,000 Philippines in Kuwait, and most of them are working as domestic helpers.
