Mubasher: The Pakistani government is currently looking into thousands of properties in the UAE and UK that it believes are owned by politically tied Pakistanis and others owned by citizens.

The government launched and Asset Recovery Unit, comprising officials from the National Accountability Bureau and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), for the corruption probe over the possible unlawful purchase or acquisition of real estate assets overseas, Pakistani newspaper The Nation reported.

Mirza Shahzad Akbar, special assistant on accountability to Pakistan's new premier Imran Khan said that the Pakistani government had received details of the properties.

There are around 10,000 properties that the Pakistani government is looking into across the UAE and the UK. However, the exact number of properties in the UAE was not disclosed.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s the Daily Times, cited Akbar as saying that the move was a “huge success”.

“We will send a list of those 300 people to the Supreme Court,” he told the newspaper. “We have details of three housing societies in Dubai.”

The news comes in a series of reports that the new Pakistani government was cracking down on several undisclosed properties owned by Pakistani nationals in the UAE.
