Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Emirates Telecommunications Group’s (Etisalat) board of directors has approved to lift restrictions on voting rights of foreign shareholders.

Upon this decision, foreign shareholders will enjoy the same rights as those of their Emirati counterparts, Etisalat said in a filing to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) on Sunday.

The telecom company’s management has been assigned to take the necessary steps to conduct the required amendments to the company’s Articles of Association as well as obtain all due approvals from the competent authorities, according to the filing.

Etisalat noted that the board’s recommendation will remain subject to the general assembly’s approval.

The company added it will inform the ADX with any developments on the subject in due course.
