Egypt, EU ink EUR 135m deals
The first financing, worth EUR 75 million, aims at supporting inclusive growth in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has signed two deals worth a combined EUR 135 million with the European Union (EU) for achieving inclusive growth, creating jobs, and combating immigration in the Arab world's most populous country.

The deals have been signed by Egyptian investment and international cooperation minister Sahar Nasr and the director-general for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Christian Danielsson, according to a statement by the ministry.

The first financing, worth EUR 75 million, aims at supporting inclusive growth in the North African nation, as well as creating jobs for its citizens, Nasr highlighted.

As for the second deal, it will support the combating immigration in Egypt programme with EUR 60 million in financing from the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF for Africa), she added.

For his part, Danielsson stressed that the EU is Egypt’s main development partner as it provided over EUR 1.3 billion as grants to the under construction projects, which rise to EUR 11 billion after adding grants, financing, debt exchange from the EU’s members and financial institutions.
