US inflation inches up 0.3% in October

Mubasher: The US consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.3% in October after rising 0.1% in September, data released on Wednesday showed.

For the 12 months ended last October, the CPI rose 2.5%, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported.

Over one-third of the increase in the index came from the rising gasoline index.

In addition, increases in the indices for shelter, used cars and trucks, and electricity also contributed.

Core CPI, which strips out volatile commodities like food and energy, went up 0.2% in October and rose 2.1% in the 12-month period ended last month.

By 1:40 pm GMT, the US dollar index fell 0.20% to 97.1100.
