Eurozone trade surplus shrinks in September

Mubasher: Provisional estimates suggested that the Eurozone trade balance surplus came in at EUR 13.1 billion ($14.78 billion) in September, down from EUR 25.3 billion in the same month last year.

Trade balance for the 28 Members of European Union (EU28) posted a deficit of EUR 1.8 billion ($2.03 billion) last September, lower than EUR 2 billion for the same month a year earlier, data released by the Eurostat revealed on Thursday.

Eurozone exports with the rest of the world declined 1% to EUR 184.8 billion in September, compared to the amount of EUR 186.6 billion for the same month of the previous year.

On the other hand, Eurozone imports from the rest of the world climbed 6.4% year-on-year to EUR 171.7 billion during the month.

In addition, EU28 exports rose 2.5% to EUR 160.2 billion during September from EUR 156.3 billion in the same month last year.

However, EU28 imports rose 5% year-on-year to EUR 162 billion, from EUR 154.3 billion.

Intra-Eurozone trade grew 2.2% year-on-year to EUR 161.1 billion in September, while Intra-EU28 trade volume rose 0.5% to EUR 291 billion.
